Run, Ruff & Roll Over, Rover! @ Doggie Run 2013

{Pet Express Doggie Run 2013}
This little pet project is getting bigger and bigger year after year! Doggie Run 2011 had an impressive turn out with 500 canine runners. Last year, it got bigger and better (the finisher doggie medal was awesome!) with 800 dogs. Now on it's 3rd run, we're looking at a whopping 1000 dogs. And it even leveled up with a timing chip! O, diba? Can you say feeling pro??? :) haha.

So, start training your four-legged running buddy and troop over to SM Mall of Asia on March 23, 2013 (Saturday). Newbie doggie runners need not fret, they can enjoy an easy 1.5K fun run. If you think your dog (and you) are fit enough, then level up and do the 3K run. And last but not the least, there's the 5K distance for elite doggie runners.

Just a friendly reminder though, let's all remember to always keep our doggie's disposition in mind. Are they dehydrated? Tired? Don't force 'em if they refuse to run. Remember, dogs can't talk (well, unless you're a dog whisperer like Cesar Millan). So, always be vigilant and check if they can still go on. If not, just leisurely stroll along the picturesque Manila Bay and make new doggie friends along the way. ;)

Hope more people support the Doggie Run this year. Aside from the timing chip, a new event-- Flyball, which is a dog team relay game, will be introduced in an exhibition game as well. Exciting!

More dogs/runners = More funds to raise for PAWS (The Philippine Animal Welfare Society)

P.S. Watch this video for some Doggie Run fun!

Capital F-U-N Runs

Long time readers of this blog have known me to be a sucker for novelty and themed races. The more out-of-the-box, the better. Not that I don't take running seriously, but there's just something about letting loose and just laughing and having fun all the way to that finish line. Now if you've been the more traditional runner, I suggest you give these upcoming fun runs a try...

Pet Express DOGGIE RUN 2012
Date: March 24, 2012 (Saturday)
Venue: SM Mall of Asia
Time: 5:30 A.M.
Distance: 1.5/3/5K
Beneficiary: PAWS (The Philippine Animal Welfare Society)

Why Run? When and where else can you run alongside four-legged canine runners? In this race, it's the dogs who are the rockstar runners, and you the entourage. Dog lovers would surely get a kick out of having matching race bibs with their dogs (the doggie race bibs can be personalized). Oh, and medals are in store for all those furry finishers too!

More details here.

FIC Run 2012

Why Run? Calling all you couch potatoes out there! Time to get off those asses and channel your favorite channels. ;) Come dressed as your favorite TV character and join the 500m Fox Costume Run. If that's not fun enough for you, then maybe winning a limited edition Fox DVD set might get you off that couch. Read: DVD MARATHON.

For the certified movie buffs, the 3K Star Movies Blockbuster Run is for you. Movie trivia and quotes will keep you entertained all throughout the route. And if you happen to forget which movie a certain trivia comes from, let your fellow runners help jog your memory- you'll be running alongside fellow minds- writers, film producers, and movie directors. Then again, you can always brush up on your daily dose of movies IF you win the home entertainment system in the raffle draw, that is.

If fashion and fitness is more your style, then join the 5K Star World Lifestyle Run. This is your chance to hobnob with models and celebrities. But what's more fun is getting your 15 minutes of fame (or at least feeling like a celebrity) as you strut your stuff in your running shoes on the red carpet. Did I mention a shopping spree will be raffled off? How fun!

Good Run: Shake Yo' Booty-Tail (Good Housekeeping Family Fun Run 2011)

After all those meetings, and everything about running and dogs and running and dogs (yep, that's no typo error) for the Pet Express Doggie Run, MY RUNS and MY DOGS ironically took a backseat. You can just imagine how envious I was seeing all the other dog lovers running with their four-legged running buddies. But of course, all that "seeing green" just took a nanosecond before it was quickly replaced with excitement, happiness, and overwhelming gratitude at the successful outcome of the run.

So when another run opened its doors to the canine kind, you can bet that I'd be there, dragging my running buddy and its furry behind ASAP!

The Good Housekeeping Family Fun Run 2011 (pets included!) was held at the Manila Ocean Park last April 3. I decided to bring our golden retriever, Phoebe, to run with this time. (My dachshund, Imp, ran a 3K in last year's dog run while BFF Phoebe cheered him on. Imp ran with my sister. I was working as one of the organizers. So, yeah, green with envy! ;P)

RACE DAY- Phoebe and I piled into the car and set off to Luneta Park. And, in true Phoebe form, as soon as the car doors opened, out she rushed excitedly wagging her booty-tail as we ran from one end of Luneta to the Grandstand. Apparently, pacing was NOT an option.

Phoebe was already all pooped out (Really. We had to make a "quick stop"...) before the 1K Pet Run, that when the actual race started, we had to take it slow and took a few walking breaks in between that looooooong stretch. But who cares? We ran, we finished, we had a whole lotta fun! It's always a blast running with (wo)man's best friend. Always.

{It's Phoebe's first official race. Woo-hoo!}

Ready, Set, Bark! (Tail Runners: The Metro Dog Run 2010)

As one of the people behind Tail Runners: The Metro Dog Run 2010, I was too busy barking out orders to actually run the race! But that doesn't mean that I didn't have a good time at that. The turnout of the event was overwhelming. Thank you to all who joined. I hope you had a blast, as we did dreaming it up. Truth be told, it could've been more streamlined, but hey, that's part of the learning curve. hehe. Hope to see everyone again next year! ;)
.
Here are some scenes from the run. Check out mypetchannel.tv for more furry tales of the great metro dog race...

Four Legs and A Tale: One Greenormous Run

{Finished in 27:01 min. Not bad!}

Call it animal instinct, but I knew something big was coming up. My usually ordinary dog days were instantly peppered with new words like: Training, Run fast, Beat those dogs (What dogs?), Don’t fall asleep ha!, and Muzzle (I don’t know what that is, but it doesn’t sound good at all). Always left behind when my humans leave for Sunday morning races, I was finally allowed to stay inside the car after I jumped in. Apparently, I’ll be joining my human, Janine, in a 3K marathon. Cool.

We arrived at Fort Bonifacio for the One La Salle Run, and what a sight to behold. I’ve never seen so much green in my life! My humans rolled down the windows and pointed out some dogs (Oh, you meant those dogs). Beagles, Shih Tzus, Labs, Golden Retrievers, and German Shepherds all abound. I popped my head out of the window and took in the air. Hmm, smells like stiff competition.

We finally found a parking spot and made our way to the starting point. The vibe was both exciting and overwhelming. Even my humans seemed surprised at the vast number of people that turned up. Almost 5000, I think. All I could see were feet, feet, and more feet of the two- and four-legged variety. A pair of hairy, white legs came up to us. Fairly middle-aged and toting a frisky mini pinscher, the man talks to my Janine.

Some Old Dude: ‘San mo nakuha yung number ng aso mo? Bakit kami wala? (Where did you get your dog’s race bib? How come we didn’t get one?)
One Hot Momma: Ah, ako lang po gumawa niyan. (Oh, I just made it myself.)
Some Old Dude: Tumatakbo ba talaga yung aso mo? Yung aso ko, palaging nagte-10K ito! (Does your dog really run? My dog runs 10K all the time!)
One Hot Momma: Hmm, hindi, mga 5 minutes lang siya tapos tinatamad na… (Hmm, noooo, 5 minutes is all he'll do before he keels over and plays dead.)

I could’ve smacked my human right there and then. How about a little trash talk, huh?!

Their conversation ended as the rain began to fall— big, furious droplets threatened the race. Uh-oh. The runners seemed oblivious of the rain as they proceeded to run anyway. I cowered under an official’s chair. I just took a stupid bath yesterday, no way was I gonna get all wet and muddy.

My human eventually forced me to run. Hey, running in the rain was actually a lot of fun!

We started off nice and slow since the road was a bit crowded. I picked up my pace and just jogged alongside my human most of the way. Noo-nee-noo-nee-noo. I felt like a semi-rock star with all the oohs and aahs (mostly from girls) I heard as we ran down the road. Must be the shirt. And to think my humans thought I looked Winnie-the-Pooh gay. Hah!

So there we were, running and minding our own business, until my uncanny canine abilities sensed something… I looked behind and saw a raging bulldog hounding me. Yikes! I may be a Weiner, but I wasn't planning on being anybody’s breakfast! Adrenaline kicked in (or was it fear?) and I ran as fast as my short, stubby legs would let me.

Surprised at the sudden vigor, my human bolted after me. Seeing what I was running away from, she broke into fits of laughter with the bully’s owner. That’s strike two for you, Janine! Hmph.

After more than the expected amount of running (Harrumph), I rested for a while and continued to just leisurely walk and people/dog watch. We caught sight of fellow mock-hlete and Running Fatboy, who ran past us in the 16K route.

Almost half an hour later, we finally spotted the finish line. Hooray! We sprinted towards the crowd and met our cheering squad with a triumphant smile and a high tail. My human scooped me up for a victory hug with a proud look on her face. Who cares if I’m wet, cold, and grimy? I am now officially a Marathoner. ~Imp
